Carpenter's injury is the most concerning with ASU's offensive leader leaving Memorial Stadium on crutches with an ankle or leg injury. The senior didn't want to say what the problem was until he knew for sure.

ASU usually goes as Carpenter does. The signal caller is the Pac-10's active leader in virtually every meaningful category. He struggled against the Bears, however, completing just 20 of 35 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown.

WR Kyle Williams continues to be one of the few consistent players on offense, not only catching a 30-yard touchdown pass but returning punts and kickoffs for 125 combined yards. ASU's defense is being put in bad spots with its offense not able to sustain long drives and making too many mistakes with the ball.
